This is my mom…

Written by Amy | No Comments

the most courages woman I know.

My mom is the person who thought me how important it is to show up everyday for my family, friends, and my work – as she does everyday. She taught me the importance of respect, tradition and ritual. My mom taught me how to persevere through life’s losses, through community, connection and love. But most importantly, she taught me that life is a gift and we are a gift to each other…every day and every moment can be joyful when we are all together (eating, of course!).  Tomorrow, for my mom, we will all be together celebrating her amazing teachings on living life…while cooking, drinking wine and planting her garden!

Happy Mother’s Day to you all!

Doing the right thing, quietly…

Written by Amy | No Comments

even when nobody knows it- that’s called integrity!

Listen to my friend, mentor, great chef and a really decent person talk about her business and her values – Sonja Finn, chef and owner of Dinette.

I love what’s happening in Pittsburgh right now.  Our city is so vibrant and progressive.  Before all the hype there were a lot of people, leaders, quietly doing what’s right and following their values and passion.  These folks have been the leaders for all us business owners, but they have never been ones to self promote, they just continue to do the right thing in sourcing our food and respecting workers.  Here’s to you, Sonja…and all the others!

our next exclusive coffee…

Written by Amy | No Comments

Jose’ Rosendo Matabajoy – Narino, Colombia. Through our amazing partnership with Counter Culture Coffee, td’o is once again bringing to Pittsburgh our 3rd exclusive coffee!  As always, our exclusive coffees must be exquisite along with being aligned with our values and passions!  Here’s a little info on Jose’s farm.

José Rosendo Matabajoy
Farm Name: El Guamo
Buesaco- Nariño, Colombia
1800 meters
Castillo- Colombia variety

This coffee comes from a project that Counter Culture is working on through CRS (catholic relief services) in Colombia – Narino.   Basically the project is all about setting up an infrastructure and marketplace for farmers in Narino to be able to sell their coffees at higher prices and better premiums to roasters like Counter Culture. Up until this year, coffee from Jose would have been blended into huge lots and unrecognized.

The coffee will arrive at td’o on Tuesday, late afternoon…stay tuned for more about the YUM and how we plan to implement the best brewing techniques.

Many thanks to Jose’ and Counter Culture!
